A Note on Diwali Wishes
Diwali messages don't have to be long — the festival rewards a short, sincere note over a long generic one. A handful of small conventions help. The greeting is normally Happy Diwali or, in many regions, Happy Deepavali; both are correct. Shubh Deepavali ("auspicious Deepavali") is a common formal alternative, and Subho Diwali is widely used in Bengal alongside Shubho Kali Pujo. For Sikh friends and family observing Bandi Chhor Divas the same evening, a respectful Happy Bandi Chhor Divas alongside Diwali wishes is appreciated.
If you don't celebrate the festival yourself, that's fine to acknowledge — "wishing you and your family a wonderful Diwali" works for any sender. Avoid messages that hinge on assumptions about which story or deity is at the centre of someone's celebration; the traditions page covers how widely those vary.
