Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Diwali.info ("we", "us", "the site") collects when you use the website at diwali.info, how that information is used, and the choices available to you. The policy was last updated on 23 September 2026.

1. Information we collect

Diwali.info is a content site — we don't ask you to create an account, sign in, or fill in forms to read articles. The information we receive when you visit falls into the following categories:

• Standard log information sent by your browser to any website: IP address, browser type and version, device type, referring URL, the page you requested and a timestamp.
• Analytics data from Google Analytics about how the site is used in aggregate — pages viewed, time on page, approximate location at country or region level, and similar.
• Information used by advertising partners (described below) such as cookie identifiers and ad-interaction signals.
• Anything you choose to send us by email if you write to contact@diwali.info.

2. Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. Diwali.info uses cookies for analytics and, on pages where ads are shown, for advertising. A fuller breakdown is available in our cookie policy. You can control cookies through your browser settings and through the opt-out links described in the advertising section.

3. Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish unique visitors and measure pages over time. The data is processed in aggregate; we don't combine it with personally identifying information. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

4. Advertising — Mediavine

Diwali.info uses Mediavine to manage all third-party advertising on the site. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the site, which may use first-party and third-party cookies. First-party cookies are created by the website you are visiting; third-party cookies are created by a domain other than the one you are visiting and are frequently used in interest-based advertising and analytics. Cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and similar technologies may be placed on the site to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimise advertising.

When serving personalised ads, the following data may be collected using a cookie: IP address, operating system type and version, device type, the language of the website, web browser type and email address (in hashed form, where available).

Mediavine's advertising partners may use this data to link it to other information they have independently collected in order to deliver targeted advertisements, and may separately collect data from other sources — such as advertising IDs or pixels — to provide interest-based advertising across your devices, browsers and apps. This data can include usage data, cookie information, device information, interactions with advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data and the referring site. Partners may also create unique IDs to build audience segments used for targeted advertising. Your choices:

• Rejecting or deleting cookies does not mean you will stop seeing ads; you will still see non-personalised advertisements on the site.
• You can opt out of interest-based advertising through the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page, the Digital Advertising Alliance's tool at aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
• For mobile apps, you can use the Digital Advertising Alliance's AppChoices app or your device's platform controls.
• Where your local law requires consent for advertising cookies, you may be shown a consent message on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time.

5. Third-party services

In addition to the Google Analytics and Mediavine services described above, the site loads fonts from Google Fonts. Loading these resources causes your browser to make a request to Google's servers, which receive standard request information (such as IP address). No personal data is asked of you to access the site.

6. How we use information

The information described above is used to:

• Operate, secure and maintain the site.
• Understand which pages are useful to readers and which need improvement.
• Display advertising and, where you have not opted out, personalise it through Mediavine and its advertising partners.
• Reply to messages you send us.

We don't sell personal information.

7. Legal basis (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal basis for processing the limited information described above is our legitimate interest in operating an information site, alongside your consent for non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) where required. Where consent is the basis, you can withdraw it at any time by adjusting your cookie choices in your browser or via the opt-out links above.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over the personal information we hold about you. These can include:

• The right to be informed about what data is collected (this policy).
• The right to access a copy of your data.
• The right to correction or deletion of your data.
• The right to object to or restrict certain processing.
• The right to data portability.
• The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the CPRA give you similar rights, including the right to know, the right to delete and the right to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. Diwali.info does not sell personal information in the everyday sense of that word.

9. Data retention

Standard server log data is retained for a short period for security and diagnostics purposes. Analytics data is retained according to the settings configured in Google Analytics. Advertising cookie data is governed by the policies of Mediavine and its advertising partners. Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to respond to your message and any reasonable follow-up.

10. Children

The site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

11. International data transfers

Service providers used by the site (including Google and Mediavine) may process information in countries other than your own. Where that's the case, those providers are responsible for putting appropriate safeguards in place under applicable law.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the site, our services or applicable law. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review the policy periodically.
